The Government of Botswana will continue to support rural based community led projects to complement efforts by the responsible Ministries.
Giving remarks during the Rural Development Council (RDC) meeting today, the Acting President His Honour Slumber Tsogwane said the RDC has been given a share of P6,3 million through the Transitional National Development Plan (TNDP) to support rural based community projects.
The Acting President said that the targeted projects for 2023/24 financial year are the expansion of the Zutshwa Salt Mine; resuscitation of Morula Processing Plant covering the Matsheng villages of Loologane, Boatlaname, Shadishadi, Sojwe and Lephepe in the Kweneng district; Morula Processing Plant based at Tsamaya in the North East District as well as Resource Mapping of Morula covering areas from Tswapong through North East to Nata/Gweta.
Acting President Tsogwane said the Governmentβs aim is to turn Kgalagadi District into Botswanaβs small stock centre of excellence and hub hence investing and improving the Lobu project. He reiterated that small stock is a widespread rural based asset, thus it is critical to the achievement of the rural development agenda.
His Honour Tsogwane announced that the implementation of the relief measures will come to an end on the 30th June 2023 and the Botswana Vulnerability Assessment Committee (BVAC) will undertake the Drought and Household Food Security Assessment and Analysis which will inform the way forward.
