The Xere Cultural Festival, set to take place on August 23-24, 2024, at Xere Village, is poised to become a significant catalyst for economic growth in the region. Ms. Keitumetse Setlang, Chief Executive Officer of Botswana Tourism, underscored the festival’s role in boosting local economic activities and promoting sustainability.
During the Xere Media Launch, Ms. Setlang emphasized that the festival aims not only to celebrate the rich Basarwa Cultural Heritage but also to create lasting economic benefits for the area. She pointed out that the event’s success should translate into sustained interest in Xere, driven by its unique arts and crafts, a cultural village, and immersive cultural experiences.
The festival, under the theme โA Night of The First People,โ promises a diverse array of activities over its two-day run. Attendees can look forward to traditional cuisine preparation and tasting, cultural exhibitions, a sunset downer picnic, a game drive in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR), as well as poetry performances and cultural song and dance.
Organized by the Xere Conservation Trust, the second annual festival aims to highlight the distinctive aspects of Basarwa culture while providing economic stimulation for the local community.
