Overview of role

To plan, organise, manage, control and implement financial management and accounting systems and procedures to ensure the accurate recording of all financial transactions and the timely maintenance and preparation of the company’s accounts and financial statements. This should be in accordance with internationally accepted accounting standards and conventions which will reflect the accurate financial status of the organization.

Job description

  • Develops an appropriate financial policy framework to guide the company’s financial decision making
  • Analyses business operations, trends, costs, revenue, financial commitments, obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice
  • Analyses and reviews information to assess the current and future financial status of the company
  • Establishes procedures for custody and control of assets, records, loan collateral, and securities, in order to ensure safekeeping
  • Oversees the preparation and consolidation of budgets and forecasts in accordance with budgetary assumptions and guidelines
  • Provides sound financial advice management about issues such as resource utilization, tax strategies and assumptions underlying budget forecasts
  • Reviews and analyses the overall spending budgets, prepares periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs
  • Analyses and classifies risks and investments to determine their potential impact on the company
  • Analyses management accounts, financial projections and reports, to facilitate business making decisions in accordance with the reporting time table
  • Evaluates financial reporting systems, accounting and collection procedures, and investment activities, and makes recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets, and other financial control functions to facilitate business decision making and the accurate maintenance of financial records
  • Surveys operations to ascertain accounting needs and to recommend, develop and maintain solutions to business and financial problems
  • Ensures proper filing and security of accounting records and liaises with the IT unit for back-ups and disaster recovery systems
  • Prepares cash flow forecasts and manage bank accounts to optimise returns on surplus funds while meeting cash flow requirements
  • Works with the Risk & Internal Auditors in planning, directing, and coordinating risk and insurance programs of establishments to control risks and losses
  • Responds to audit queries and addresses key financial issues confronting the organisation
  • Ensures that accounting processes are carried out in accordance with procedures to meet specific deadlines e.g. payroll, payment of creditors, monthly returns, cash flow management e.t.c.
  • Coordinates and assists in preparation of tenders for goods with departments and advises on procedures to ensure adherence to, and compliance with, tender policies procedures
  • Any other duties as assigned by the General Manager

Requirements, Education and Experience

  • A Degree in Business Administration
  • Knowledge in Pastel is an added advantage
  • ACCA/ CA/ CIMA is an added advantage
  • 5 or more years of experience in a similar position
