ASSISTANT SOFTWARE TECHNICIAN – BOTETI MINING

Job Summary
Reporting to the General Engineering Supervisor, the Assistant shall provide technical support to the software technician in the design, development, installation and maintenance of plant control system, distributed control system, SCADA and its related IT Infrastructure.

Effectiveness Areas:
Design and Development.
Interpretation of the process functional specification and developing appropriate programs/ functions /routines and or sequences for the safe control of process and plant equipment.
Participate and contributes in HAZOP activities.
Guides procurement of appropriate software
Evaluation and testing of new or modified software programs and software development procedures.
Develops and guides program-coding standards.
Change Management and Control.
Maintains the program change management procedure.
Maintains a record of all changes.
Perform routine backup – automated or manual.
Control Hardware and Server Maintenance.

Monitors machines event logs and rectifies any alarms or warning in time.
Maintains the server room conditions free of dust, water and high temperatures.
Reviews PLC log files and rectifies any alarms or warning status in time
Ensures that all hardware is stock coded and spare are available.
Program Maintenance.o Trouble shooting /debugging software.
Perform routine check for program changes.
Keep in touch with OEM for patches and hotfixes.
Maintain a service level agreement with OEM to allow access to patches, fixes and service packs.
Ensure all license are up to date.
Borehole Instrumentation and Telemetry.
Perform planned maintenance on borehole instrumentation.
Perform planned maintenance on borehole telemetry system.
Applications Support
Shall be the custodian for the SCADA application, provide support and configuration of monitoring, and control features for the Rockwell SCADA application.
Shall be the custodian for the Management Information System – OSIsoft PI server and AF Server.
Shall be the custodian the KepServer OPC interfaces and for enabling proprietary applications to interface with each other.

Qualifications and Experience:
Recognised Technician Diploma in Electronics / Control & Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent qualification.
5 years post qualification experience, three of which should have been in a similar position.
Experience with industrial instrumentation essential.
Experience with electronics, digital electronics, control systems and ALLEN Bradley PLCs essential (Rockwell).
Previous experience in software development and server operating systems and maintenance essential.
Valid driver’s License essential
Ideally Registered with the Board of Technicians
