Unitrans Botswana, requires the services of experienced Botswana citizens for the following vacant positions which are tenable at KHOEMACAU MINE in TOTENG in the North West District.
The incumbents will be expected to carry out their duties in a safe , secure and economic manner in total compliance with legal and operational requirements. Previous working experience
in a mining work environment will be highly essential.
Residents in those areas are encouraged to apply since residential accomodation is scarce. Women are equally encouraged to submit applications as an empowerment requirement of the Company.
- WORKSHOP FOREMAN
The ideal candidate will be responsible coordinating the entire
Workshop functions :
• Managing a team of heavy duty vehicles, trailers and
tankers and yellow equipment (front-end loaders,
bulldozers, forklifts) maintenance staff.
• Developing and maintaining a sound relationship with
Operations staff and suppliers
• Managing the fleet maintenance and repair programme.
• Managing the vehicle maintenance costs to acceptable
levels
• Managing stock levels and the purchase of replacement
parts and equipment
• Developing the Workshop budget
The successful candidate should have the following
qualifications and competencies:
• Artisan or technicial certificate in diesil/heavy plant
meachanics
• Extensive and an in-depth knowledge of maintenance
philosophies for a varied range of automotive and
materials handling equipment, specifically
• service scheduling and planning
• manpower utilization and supervision
• tooling
• cost & quality control
• sound budgeting and forecasting knowledge
• Safety, Health,Environmental and Quality standards and
requirements
• Knowledge of handling Dangerous Goods
• Exposure to fabrication technologies (boiler making/
welding)
• Labour Relations Management
• Computer literacy (MS Office Excel & Word)
• Preventative maintenance progrmmes
• possession of a B class driver’s licence. Possession of a class
EC drivers licence would be preferable.
A minimum of five (5) years experience working on different
makes of truck tractors, plant equipment and leading
subordinates in a busy heavy commercial fleet workshop will
be an added advantage.
- MINING AND HAULAGE CONTRACT MANAGER
Reporting to the Operations Director,the successful applicant
will have a minimum of 5 years experience in operating land
train haulage units of 200 tonnes gross vehicle mass, front-end
loaders, bulldozers and road maintenance in a mining work
environment.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Direct, supervise ,coordinate all transport operations in the
depot, including fleet, employees, revenue and budgets to
meet strategic, quality and profit targets within legal and
safety parameters and those laid down by the mine.
• Oversee fleet maintenance processes to ensure optimum
fleet, equipment and driver utilisation;
• Monitor compliance with Company and Mine Safety,
Health, Environment & Quality policies and procedures
• Manage and monitor contracts performance and take
corrective action.
• Manage the entire spectrum of the depot work,
including its administration,Industrial Relations and risk
management.
• Manage a team of staff including, despatchers, gantry
loaders, supervisors, clerks and other ancillary staff;
• Consult, coach, motivate, counsel and discipline staff
A sound knowledge of heavy duty fleet and plant equipment
maintenance and repair will be essential, as well as a
proficiency in computer systems.
Good Customer communication and team leadership skills are
a prerequisite.
A holder of Degree/Diploma in Tranport or related field and
possess the following competencies:
• Self- motivated
• Ability to work long and odd hours
• Strong Supervisory Skills with a proven record in terms of
people –management, with special emphasis on Industrial
Relations;
• Effective team player
• The ability to deal with people at all levels is essential
This is a senior hands-on position and the incumbent must
be able to work long hours in a mining environment.
Computer literacy is essential with a good working knowledge
of Excel,MS Word and Access;
- FLEET SUPERVISORS
Applicants will have to meet the following requirements :
Based in TOTENG the incumbent is expected to ensure
achievement of daily delivery targets and maintenance of
vehicle utilisation by scheduling vehicles and allocating drivers
as well as managing relations with customers and other role
players. Applicants must have:
• Strong supervisory and people-management skills, with
special reference on Industrial Relations;
• A Bachelors/Diploma in Transport or equivalent
qualification;
• at least five years experience in a busy transport,
distribution or supply chain planning environment ;
• Experience in working with Safety, Health, Environment &
Quality systems is essential as you will be required to drive
the implementation of ISO certification for 9001. 14001,
18001 and Occupational Health & Safety;
• Ability to deal with people at all levels is essential.
• Computer literacy skills .
• Be self- motivated
- ULTRA HEAVY DUTY VEHICLE DRIVERS
Applicants will have to meet the following requirements:
The drivers will be required to drive one of the ultra-heavy
duty trucks and trailers that work 24 hours a day, seven days
a week to haul the ore within the Mine area. Preference will
be given to Holders of the Special Type (H) driving licence and
PrDP]. Holders of EC Licence class will be expected to undergo
training to qualify for the H Licence Class. Possession of a
Junior Certificate will be an added advantage. Licences will be
confirmed with the Department of Road Transport and Safety
for authenticity and validity. Applicants must be prepared to
work shifts, including Public Holidays.
Candidates originating or currently residing in Maun/
Sehithwa,Toteng areas and surrounding villages would be
ideal.
- FRONT-END LOADER AND BULLDOZER OPERATORS
Applicants will have to operate the equipment and
understand the functions and location of operator
components. They will also meet the following requirements
• Preferably hold a BGCSE
• Relevant experience as an operator
• Be medically fit
• Willingness to work with Safety, Health, Environment &
Quality systems
• Be able to read and write English
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends and Public Holidays .
• Clean criminal record
• Preference will be given to female applicants and
those residing in Maun and surrounding villages .
• Recording and reporting all defects on the
equipment for submission to the workshop
• Maintaining the cleanliness of the equipment
• Ensure adherence to all Safety, Health,
Environmenmtal and Quality(SHEQ) requirements
of the Company to prevent injury, damage to
product and equipment
- SHEQ MANAGER
Applicants will have to meet the following requirements:
• Holds a Bachelors degree in occupational Health and
Safety.
• Atleast 5 years of relavent experience in a mining
enviroment
• A masters degree will be an added advantage
The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Plan, direct and implement organisational safety, health,
environmental and quality programmes.
• Plan and implement safety policies and procedures in
compliance with Occupational Safety and Health rules and
regulations.
• Plan and implement programmes to train managers and
employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention,
equipment and other materials.
• Prepare studies and analyses of industrial accident causes
and hazards to health for use by company personnel and
outside agencies.
• SHEQ experience in a mining operation will be an added
advantage
- GENERAL WORKER /WASHBAY
Applicants will be expected to carry out all duties related to
manual work, including washing trucks and other vehicle fleet
units.
• Preferably hold a BGCSE
• Work experience as a general worker
• Be medically fit
• Be able to read and write English
• Clean criminal record
• Preference will be given to female applicants and those

- ADMINISTRATIVE CLERK
The position overall entails assisting in providing an efficient
administrative and support service to the Operation
Management based at Toteng by conducting general office
duties, administrative operational reports and handling drivers’
and customer matters.
Responsibilities include:
• Documents/reports are checked for accuracy and updated
daily
• Reports and documents are filed according to prescribed
procedures for audit purposes, i.e. PODs, Trip Sheets, etc.
for audit purposes
• Schedules to attach monthly invoices are prepared
according to prescribed format
• Figures are calculated according to prescribed formulae
• Reports are submitted timeously, according to the
prescribed format
• Receipts issued from a numbered Receipt Book & receipt
numbers recorded on Bank Deposit Voucher
• Customer queries are handled timeously
• Invoices correctly issued and delivered as requested by
customers and never duplicated
• Signed invoices sent to Regional Office for payment
• Upkeep and tidiness of offices and surroundings managed
• Process payments and receipts of income and ensure that
transactions are recorded accurately in the General Ledger
• Forecast monthly administration costs;
• Monitor of debtors and creditors;
• Produce monthly accounting reports;
• Providing overall support to the Mine Contract Manager.
Requirements:Accounting Degree/AAT or equivalent, membership
of an internationally recognised accountancy institution
(e.g. CIMA,ACCA or ACA) and at least three years work
experience at supervisory level in a computerised accounting
environment. Work experience in a transport, distribution or
supply chain planning environment will be an added advantage.
The incumbent must be assertive, decisive with good
leadership and communication skills

- FLEET CONTROLLER
• The incumbent will be expected to monitor and improve operational performance of the contract
in line with prescribed Company and customer policies, standards and strategic, profit and quality
targets. Some of the specific tasks would include:
• Supervising and coaching subordinates
• Preparing driver and vehicle rosters to ensure equitable allocation and optimum utilisation
• Monitoring compliance with “daily required delivery” targets
• Handling customer complaints/problems

- TYRE FITTERS
Applicants will have to meet the following requirements:
• Holds a high school certificate or equivalent qualification
• On the job training and certification
• Customer service , heavy lifting, computer proficiency
Some of the specific duties will entail:
• Monitors tyre wear on equipment.
• Responsible and controls all tyre bay activities (check tyre pressure fitment of wheels and tyres, etc).
• Keeps tyre records up to date.
• Stock control.
• Ensures that documentation is correct
• Ensures vouchers and invoices are processed and authorised daily
- BOILER MAKER /WELDER
Applicants will have to meet the following requirements :
National Craft Certificate ( NCC) or related with at least 3 years relavent experience in Boiler making
preferably in a mining enviroment.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Use and maintain many type of equipment such as welding machines and hoists
• Construct and repair steel and other metal components using a variety of welding techniques.
• Welds together metal components of products such as pipelines, automobiles, boilers with electric arcwelding
equipment.
• Mechanical skills is essential
- STORES CONTROLLER
The incumbent will be expected to ensure e that stock, including spares, tools/equipment, lubricants and
other consumables as well as uniforms are purchased, issued, controlled and accounted for and the stock
database system is maintained for the efficient and cost effective running of the workshop stores.
Specifically, make cheque requisitions to creditors, submit expenditure reports and ensure compliance
with Health, Safety,Environment & Quality requirements as well as the efficient and cost effective running
of the workshop store.
Senior School Certificate plus advanced certificate in purchasing and supply or related qualification with at
least 5 years relavent experience in procurement in a transport or mining environment.
- MECHANICS
The following will be required to qualify:
• Diesel /Trailer/Plant mechanics and auto-electricians qualifications at National Craft Certificate/
Journeyman Class 1 level or equivalent
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance programmes
• Computer literacy (MS Office Excel & Word)
• Experience on SCANIA; M/Benz , MAN, Freightliner truck tractors
• A clean Class B Driver’s Licence , but Class EC Drivers Licence would be preferable
A minimum of five years post-qualification experience in a busy extra heavy duty vehicle or plant
workshop is highly essential. And a working knowledge of yellow equipment will be an added advantage.
