2015 Best DJ’s In Botswana: Your Top 10
This year was a year of music growth in Botswana, we are nearing the end of year and it is time for the music industry to shine even more. DJ’s are not to be left behind as they keep night crawlers busy at nightclubs and parties. We have had DJ’s growing and becoming entertainers of international standards. Although it was not easy, we tried to narrow down the best of the crop, who were very out standing this year.
1. DJ Kuchi.
This talented young man is a producer a remixer a DJ and a director at Xplosion Entertainment. He has been on fire this year and has been nominated for three awards on this year’s Yarona Fm Music Awards, Best House DJ, Social Media Award and People’s choice Award. We cannot think of anyone who deserve to walk away with these awards come Saturday.
2. DJ Fauz.
The club DJ has already toured places such as Thamaga, Kanye and Lobatse performing at different events and nightclubs. This disc jockey specializes in urban music such as Hip Hop and Ragga. He recently spiced up his sets by introducing live visual mixes.
3. DJ Izzy.
This Yarona FM drive time host is also one of the nominees t this year’s Yarona FM Music Awards. Prior to the release of the hit single Nijel Amos by DJ Izzy Ft. Zeus, Scar and A.T.I. it made an entry into every music chart on Botswana radio including the RB2 Top 40.
4. Colastraw.
DJ Colastraw made his mark locally after producing Club Chisa 1 and 2. The track such as Time after Time was a big hit, he is now based in Johannesburg, South Africa. This year, DJ Colastraw signed a mix CD release deal with another British records company called Dazzle Events, which offered him a deal to produce 13 UK House hits.
5. DJ Gouviea.
This RB2 radio presenter is one of the finest dj’s who is doing well this year. His song Ambuye recieved a lot of air play, andis banging in local night clubs and events. He is one of the local presenters who support local music.
6. Chef Gustos.
Thato Modukanele, popularly known as Chef Gustos, sang his new single titled, I Can Be, on Valentines Day at Limkokwing Hall of Fame, this year. He has been nominated at this year’s YAMA’s, for the song Come (featuring Amantle) for the best dance single, best newcomer and best producer.
7. DJ Ricky Lamar.
This veteran has been nominated for the 2015 YAMA’s under the best house DJ category. His song Morning Light ft Naux is now available on Naomi Music. He killed it at this year’s Motswako Invasion festival.
8. DJ Crispin The Drummer.
This energetic Gaborone based DJ specializes on ancestral, tribal minimal, trance, electro, deep and dance genre. He has performed in various local joints and has also performed across boarder in places such as, South Africa Mafikeng , Capetown (Zar club, Space Bar) and Namibia (Nice Restaurant).
9. DJ La Timmy.
Flava Dome resident DJ, La Timmy is one of the well known artists in Botswana. He started his music career in 2004 as a DJ in Francistown and then relocated to Gaborone in 2006 where he worked with Vee as a DJ in his tours for four years. Since going solo he has flourished and produced hit many singles.
10. DJ Oats.
After bagging a number of awards last year Oteng ‘DJ Oats’ Moshotle went silent this whole year and recently resurfaced with a new single titled Ndini, which proves to be another club banger. Ndini is an offering from DJ Oats’ sophomore album House University Year 2, which will be officially released this month. DJ Oats also dropped a mix this year, featuring T.IC, and Konkrete, Dhumba.
