After so much anticipation, the new passenger train bound for Lobatse from Francistown failed to take off last night due to technical difficulties. The train was supposed to depart at 9pm but was delayed as the batteries which power the lights were said to be dead. Addressing enraged passengers at the train station last night, Botswana Railways CEO Dominick Ntwaagae explained that the halt was caused by loss of power generation in the train.
The no longer excited passengers were at the ticket office demanding refunds. The old and young were left standing as there is no waiting area. Some people are convinced that Sonny Serite was on to something, they believe that this train is not new, but it is the re-painted old one.
After almost six years of absence, the passenger train returned yesterday. The return wass long over-due, as it will come handy during holidays when buses struggle to cope with the number of passengers. The train was launched in Lobatse on Tuesday.
