VACANCY: REGISTRAR OF THE HIGH COURT
The Judicial Service Commission invites suitably qualified visionary, self-driven and results oriented Botswana citizens to apply for the post of Registrar of the High Court, tenable at the Headquarters of the Judiciary in Gaborone.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To oversee and ensure effective management of the High Court Divisions and supervise Regional Magistrates.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
• PROVISION OF PROFESSIONAL ADVICE
Provides advice and guidance on High Court matters and court procedures to Chief Registrar and attorneys, litigants and the public.
• STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
Manages and maintains efficient and effective communication with external stakeholders.
• POLICY DEVELOPMENT, REVIEW AND IMPLEMENTATION
Develops and maintains sound policies, processes, strategies, operational guidelines and performance standards for the High Court.
Facilitates efficient and effective execution of all of the processes of the Courts by ensuring that policies, rules and guidelines within the various Courts are adhered to.
Prepares, submits and presents reports to the Chief Registrar.
Coordinates all issues of staff discipline, promotions, transfers, recruitment and deployments and reports misconduct of the magistrates to the Chief Registrar.
• PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT
Regulates the performance of the Courts, staff and Deputy Sheriffs in terms of policies and statutes.
• STAFF SUPERVISION
Oversees the regulation of the performance of staff in the High Courts and Magistrates Courts as well as Deputy Sheriffs in terms of the Act or any other written law.
Acts as the custodian of the seal of the High Court.
Designates Magistrates who may preside over Small Claims Court.
Receives records on inquests and reports to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions on such and issues certificates.
• FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
Develops budget estimates for the High Court and Magistrates Courts and submits to the Chief Registrar.
• SELF DEVELOPMENT
Assesses personal knowledge and skills against job specific competencies to identify development needs and priorities.
Seeks constructive feedback from others and uses it for self-development.
Identifies areas of strength and advances them further.
• STAFF DEVELOPMENT
Mentors and coaches supervisees and identifies key development areas and attends to addressing skills gaps.
Undertakes any other related duties as may be assigned by the Hon. Chief Justice and the Chief Registrar.

SALARY: F1: (P659 508 per annum)
LEAVE: 30 working days per annum
QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from University of Botswana (or other recognised University or Institution) and sixteen (16) years post qualification work experience in the field of Law of which two (2) years must have been served as Deputy Registrar at F2 salary scale or equivalent in the Government, Parastatal or Private Sector.
BENEFITS:
i) Optional contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government pays 50% employee pays 50%).
ii) Contributory Pension Fund Scheme (Government pays 15% employee pays 5%).
iii) Scarce skill allowance at 35% of basic salary, which is subject to review from time to time.
iv) Robing allowance at P2, 517.85 p/a.
v) Entertainment Allowance at P11, 818.45 p/a.
