The 5G Future is Here
His Excellency the President of the Republic Botswana Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi officially launched Orange Botswana 5G Technology, Orange’s first commercial network in Africa.
Speaking at the launch, President Masisi expressed delight with the advancement from 4G to 5G services. He said the new 5G technology offers a depth of possibilities for the market, ultimately ensuring solutionist thinking to enhance every Motswana’s ability to communicate and connect better.
He further emphasized that with these possibilities, derives a great responsibility to ensure that individuals and businesses are supported and that Batswana use the technology and enhanced access and infrastructure for progress and prosperity
His excellency urged Batswana not to underestimate the power of Information telecommunications technology (ICT) towards aiding the economy. He further emphasized that it has the potential and power to unlock opportunities across a spectrum of sectors, be it in the financial services sector, the healthcare sector, and the communications space.
Masisi mentioned how students have easy access to information, knowledge and learning resources stating that they can liaise with academics the world over at a touch of a button. The President mentioned how ICT is also a critical tool in the ease of doing business in the world as connecting with other counterparts in Asia, Europe and beyond without having to move from one’s office chair, is as seamless as face-to-face communication.
After switching to 5G in Botswana, Orange plans to launch next-generation networks commercially in six other markets in the Middle East and Africa in 2023
