After the Law Society of Botswana found her husband Tebogo Sebego guilty of professional misconduct and fined him P7,500 through the disciplinary committee, the Court of Public Opinion crucified the poor man. Some people through Facebook said it serves him right, as he is a corrupt man who took our football down. His wife and namesake Tebogo Lebotse Sebego slapped back at the negative comments.
“It must be nice to say whatever you want to say about the next person without any regard or reflection on what damage or harm your words can do. Who in their right mind would spend so much money on lawyer fees to challenge a fine of 7thousand 500 if it wasn’t a matter of principle and a genuine attempt to clear their name?” the wife asked”
She continued to say, “Most would have paid the small fine and let it go and avoid the noise. He didn’t. He challenged the decision of the Law Society out of principle and he won at the High Court. The Law Society appealed the High court ruling and won at the Court of Appeal. The CoA interpretation seems to be that, this was a small issue that did not require to be fully investigated and could be resolved with a fine.”
Tebogo went on to say that she has an opinion about the outcome of the CoA and believe they failed to apply themselves and trivialized a brand and reputation tainting issue. “My area of expertise is brand and reputation management. And because of this, I expected exactly this talk from the Court of Public Opinion. People out there reading the headline and readily jumping to conclusions because it is Sebego, former BFA President and some random Motswana guy who has no business, to seem to be doing well for himself,” she said.
“I mean really how dare he try to work hard to overcome his poor background. No way he can be doing so well for himself out of hard work ONLY. Obviously, he must have cheated his way to get where he is. This is how we think of any Motswana without a big family surname or ‘old money’ who tries to rise above their poverty and manage to make a decent living. Re ntse jalo Batswana! This is why the wealth of our country isn’t in our control. We are busy gunning down the small guys whilst ululating the real criminals milking our country,” she said.
In conclusion Mrs Lebotse said she prays for each one of those making the derogatory comments that they never ever have to be in a similar position. And that if it ever happens to anyone, they will have better luck than Sebego and that they are spared from the name calling by the Court of Public Opinion.
