Tconnect, an authorized Starlink reseller, has officially launched Starlink in Botswana, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation. The launch event, held in Gaborone yesterday, underscored the impact of high-speed satellite internet in addressing connectivity challenges and driving technological advancement.
Speaking at the event, Minister for State President, Mr. Moeti Mohwasa, highlighted the crucial role of internet access in education, healthcare, and public services. He acknowledged existing challenges, including high costs, unreliable connectivity, and rural-urban disparities, which hinder access to digital resources. He emphasized that Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency satellite internet presents a transformative solution, helping bridge these gaps and fostering innovation across various sectors.
Tconnect Managing Director, Mr. Billy Sekgororoane, noted that Africa’s diverse landscape has historically posed connectivity challenges. However, he pointed out that adaptable solutions like iLink are expanding access to high-speed internet, making it more accessible to remote and underserved communities.
“By bridging the digital divide, we empower businesses and communities, linking them to global opportunities,” said Sekgororoane.
The introduction of Starlink in Botswana is expected to revolutionize internet access, particularly in rural areas, supporting economic growth, digital education, telemedicine, and entrepreneurship. With improved connectivity, the country moves closer to realizing its vision of a digitally inclusive and competitive economy.
