Suspension of live cattle export to RSA
- Farmers and stakeholders are informed that the government of the Republic
of South Africa (RSA) has imposed a cattle movement standstill in order to
control Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).
- This movement standstill affects movement of cattle in and out of feedlots.
- Importation of cattle into RSA has also been suspended
. As a result the Department of Veterinary Services has suspended issuing
export permits for live cattle to RSA with immediate effect. - All unused export permits for live cattle to RSA are cancelled and should
therefore be considered invalid.
- Farmers and stakeholders are advised to note that live cattle export
dispensation HAS NOT been suspended and applications can still be made
to the Minister of Agriculture for export of live cattle to other countries
accepting imports of live cattle from Botswana.
