“Should I be Making Music For People Or The Media?” Eurika
Euri (Tebogo Motsie) is prepared to make yet another giant leap forward in his career. He has been active on twitter today, discussing with fellow rappers on how to change the hip hop game in Botswana. According to him for the past 3 years he has been debating with himself if he should be making music for people or the media. The rappers says it has become much harder to find a balance.
The talented rapper points out that local rappers often say that they are making music for the people but in fact you hear they are just putting out what radio wants to spin until people remain with no choice. “Its a difficult decision to make. As an artist signed to an indie, because you know money has been spent and must be recovered,” he said.
Euri has been around for a while now and he knows what he is talking about. He has found out that the media wants superstars, and they want a familiar sound so they don’t have to ‘teach’ people new sounds or dances. “So as an indie artist you are in between a rock and a hard place. You know you can offer more to the world. But will our local media support that? So after its been all said and done, I’ve decided to take the route less traveled. The record label supports my decision,” a powerful statement from one of his tweets.
“So that’s it ladies and gentlemen. I am happy to please the niche and let everybody else please everybody else. We’ll see how u feel bout the art.” We cannot wait for what you have in store for us Euri. We wish you nothing but the best, as long as it takes the local rap game to in an international competitive stage.
