Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) and Police Advisor to the Ministry for State President, Witness Bosija, has officially retired from the Botswana Police Service (BPS) after an illustrious 42-year career. Bosija, who joined the service in 1983, was honoured at a heartfelt farewell ceremony held on April 16, 2025, at Police Headquarters in Gaborone.

Commissioner of Police, Dinah Marathe, led the tributes, praising Bosija for his exceptional dedication, selflessness, and unwavering commitment throughout his distinguished career. She described him as a disciplined and devoted officer whose professional ethos left a lasting mark on the organisation.

“As you retreat to civilian life, the efficiency and humility you demonstrated over the years will continue to earn you respect among the communities,” said Commissioner Marathe. She reminded him that “once a police officer, always a police officer,” adding that his identity as a crime prevention activist will endure beyond his service.

The Commissioner also encouraged Bosija to share his wealth of experience in national crime-fighting efforts, and wished him a peaceful and fulfilling retirement. She urged him to use this next chapter for spiritual growth for himself and his family.

In his farewell speech, Bosija expressed deep gratitude to the BPS and reflected on his career as both challenging and rewarding. He thanked the Commissioner, the Senior Management Team, and his colleagues for their support throughout his journey.

Reflecting on his role as Police Advisor, Bosija highlighted how the position significantly shaped his understanding of governance, national security, and strategic policing. “Being in that position truly was an eye-opener. It gave me a broader perspective and helped me grow as a professional and a person,” he said. He also noted that it deepened his appreciation for inter-agency collaboration and policy-driven law enforcement.

Deputy Commissioner of Police responsible for Support Services, Mr Solomon Mantswe, delivered a moving tribute, recounting their shared journey from junior officers to senior leadership. He described Bosija as principled, focused, and inspirational, both professionally and personally.

“We started this journey together as young officers full of ambition and determination. Over the years, I had the privilege of witnessing his remarkable professional and personal growth,” Mantswe said. He wished Bosija well in retirement, assuring him that his wisdom would always be valued.

Before becoming Police Advisor, Bosija notably served as the BPS Public Relations Officer, succeeding another veteran officer, retired Senior Assistant Commissioner Christopher Mbulawa. He was also a founding member of the Public Relations Unit and is respected not only as a police officer but also as an accomplished journalist.

The farewell ceremony was attended by branch commanders and deputies from across Gaborone. It was a moment of reflection, emotion, and celebration of a career that has left an indelible legacy within the BPS Senior Management Team.
