The Botswana department of Communications at Office of the President convened a workshop on SADC Benefits Case and Regional Integration on the 10th and 11th June 2020 at AVANI, Gaborone Botswana. The workshop brought together communication officers from various line ministries, academia and civil society tasked with the implementation of the regional agenda as per the SADC Treaty. This key stakeholder group was chosen as champions to support the communication agenda of Regional Integration.
The participants went through an orientation of Regional Integration while learning critical ways of developing benefit cases and communicating the benefits of Regional Integration, particularly the work that the SADC Secretariat is undertaking. It is anticipated that through building capacities of communication officers in Ministries, a larger demographic will learn of the benefits of Regional Integration through understanding SADC Protocols and how Botswana continues to grow as a country and contribute to the SADC Regional Integration Agenda. The workshop was supported by GIZ Strengthening the National-Regional Linkages (SNRL) in SADC programme – a partnership programme between SADC, the European Union and the German Government.
