Touching Story Of A UB Student: From Porvety To BSc In Radiation & Health Physics
The life of Olorato Rabanna is like a script taken from a Hollywood movie. We have all gone through a lot, but at times we give up, but after reading this biography, we might go back to the drawing board and be the best that we can be. “I was born and raised from an abject poverty stricken family, my parents did not go to school and imagine how they raised a family of 7 in this world of today, where there is shortage of jobs,” he says.
He continues to say, “after years of hardships, there was yet another challenging journey we had to travel, school. We started primary school with no uniform, walked about 40 kilometers per day to school in an empty stomach and mostly with no proper or no shoes at all. We were a laughing stock for many, we were rebuked with no wrath. To my side, I was feeble and severely broken. I will groan because of the turmoil of my heart, as for the light of my eyes it was gone.”
“Years went on, still going through the same old life; academically I was not that gifted enough because I got very poor grades from Standard one until Standard seven, I then went to JC and it was still not good and ended up scoring a D, amazingly perhaps miraculously I got admitted at Senior School. My perspective changed there, that’s when I realized that I needed to change and stop complaining. I really cried so badly when I found out that I got 76% as overall pass in my first test in a Senior school, and it was my first time. There was nothing to be amazed of as yet more was to be revealed, BGCSE passed by I then managed 47 points with A* in Maths, AA in double science, A in Agric, A in Commerce and C in English. Supplemented English at Bocodol and got A* afterwards which moved my pass from 47 to 48. I was not hasty or frankly, I chilled down mellow. I knew there was a light at the end of the channel.”
“It was time to face the outside world, reality indeed. After that I went on and applied for a PPL(private pilot licence) and managed to complete it successfully. Wrote a Maths book and held motivational sessions twice. Still I waited and here I am in a University, I knew that when things go wrong as they sometimes do we ought to stand up. Our situations do not have to define who we really are, our diligence, courage, confidence and consistency of all these can take us places. Sit down and find out your purpose, great things await you. You have greatness within you,” he said in conclusion.
This is a touching story…..draw inspiration from it.
