The new year can often feel like a time of change, reflection, and personal growth. For Rachel Kolisi, this year’s transition was marked by a powerful solo adventure to Botswana, a place that would soon capture a significant part of her heart.

“This was my first holiday/new year without my kiddies,” Rachel shared, reflecting on the emotions that came with spending the holidays apart from her children. “So instead of staying home sad and alone, I went on my dream trip to Botswana 🇧🇼.”

In a vulnerable and heartfelt post, Rachel explained how this trip was also her first solo journey. As an introvert, she admits to having arrived in Botswana feeling nervous and sad, but what unfolded during her stay was something truly special. “I left with a very full heart and so many amazing new friends from all over the world,” she added, showing how the experience had transformed her perspective in more ways than one.

Rachel’s trip took her to African Horseback, where she stayed and booked through African Horse Safaris. The serene landscapes of Botswana, known for its vast deserts, wildlife, and natural beauty, provided the perfect backdrop for Rachel’s reflective journey. This experience allowed her to reconnect with herself in a way that was both enriching and healing.

The emotional weight of Rachel’s trip is further magnified by the personal challenges she has faced recently. Following a period of deep reflection and open communication, Rachel and her husband Siya Kolisi made the mutual decision to end their marriage. In a joint statement, the couple shared the following:

“We wanted to share some important news with you. After much reflection and open conversations, we have mutually decided to end our marriage. This decision comes from a place of love, respect, and understanding that this is the best path forward for both of us. While our relationship as a couple is changing, we remain great friends and committed partners in raising our children with the same love and care they’ve always known. We will also continue working together on the Foundation that means so much to us. We are grateful for the love, understanding, and support you’ve shown us, and we kindly ask for your respect as we navigate this transition. With gratitude and love, Siya and Rachel.”

Even amidst the changes in her personal life, Rachel’s journey to Botswana served as a reminder of the importance of self-care, new experiences, and the strength that comes from embracing vulnerability. “Botswana will always have a big piece of my heart ❤️,” Rachel wrote, a testament to the deep connection she formed with the country and the memories she will carry with her moving forward.

This year, Rachel’s story is one of transformation and finding peace in new experiences. Through her trip to Botswana, she not only discovered breathtaking landscapes and met incredible people but also rekindled a sense of joy and self-discovery. As she continues to navigate this new chapter in her life, Botswana will undoubtedly remain a cherished part of her journey, reminding her of the importance of stepping outside of her comfort zone, embracing change, and creating new memories along the way.
