President Masisi Promises Babirwa Continued Support
Government will continue to avail any possible means to help curb rampant cross border cattle rustling in the Bobirwa area, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has said
Speaking during the official hand over of items purchased for individuals who volunteered to look after cattle in the Bobonong area, dubbed Mephato, Dr Masisi said stock theft in Bobirwa had been going on for long time and had impoverished Batswana, hence the need for continued interventions.
Dr Masisi applauded Babirwa their commitment to protecting their livestock, saying formation of syndicates such as Mephato was a welcome development.
The President also commended the Bobirwa Sub-district Council for promptly heeding the request to procure protective clothing and other items for Mephato, a gesture, which he said would be a motivation to Mephato.
The items included axes, torches and protective clothing in form of boots, overalls, sun hats and goggles.
Dr Masisi however implored Mephato to use them for their rightful purposes.
Area MP, Mr Taolo Lucas commended government’s plan to restock cattle in Bobirwa since many farmers had lost their cattle to neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe.
He said Babirwa were eagerly waiting for the promised special purpose vehicles and equipment such as drones to be used in areas that were difficult to access.
Mr Lucas also said though it could be expensive, an electric border fence in the Bobonong area was ideal. BOPA
