President Ian Khama To Get Over 4 Million Pula On His First Year Of Retirement
President Ian Khama who will be leaving office in April will be getting a sum of P4.3 million on his first year of retirement.
He will receive his first wholesome pay in the financial year starting April 1, 2018, right after his vice, Mokgweetsi Masisi, steps into power.
The bulk of the budget will go towards remuneration in the office, with P948,960 earmarked for ‘basic salary’ and nearly P50,000 for different types of allowances.
The draft estimates of the 2018-2019 budget indicates that Khama’s retirement office has also been allocated P1.73 million for external travel and P145,000 for his internal trips.
On his furniture and equipment, the government will spend P150,000, while another P150,000 is categorised as “grounds – maintenance and running expenses”.
The soon-to-be former president will enjoy P175,000 for incidental expenses, P100,000 for “domestic and household requisites”, P100,000 for office supplies, P250,000 for postal charges and P380,000 for “service charges”.
Another P113,330 has been budgeted for maintenance of equipment, vehicles and plant, as well as computer consumables.
In comparison, the office of former president, Festus Mogae has a budget of P3.6 million for 2018-2019, a slight reduction from the P3.8 million allocated in the 2017-2018 financial year.
The amounts, however, are a step up from the P2.8 million allocated to Mogae’s office in 2016-2017.
The former president’s office has been allocated P1.5 million for basic salaries, P1.1 million for external travel and P114,860 for internal travel.
