President Advocate Duma Boko today met with Ntlo Ya Dikgosi chairperson, Kgosi Malope II of Bangwaketse, at the Office of the President, where he called for a stronger role from traditional leaders in addressing the growing cases of violence across the country.
During the meeting, President Boko emphasized that Dikgosi have historically been the custodians of unity within communities and played a pivotal role in maintaining social harmony. However, he noted that this influence has diminished over time.
“The role of Bogosi in uniting communities and preserving peace was once a defining factor in our society. Unfortunately, we are seeing less of that today,” he stated.
As violence continues to rise in various parts of the country, President Boko urged Bogosi and other stakeholders to actively participate in efforts to combat these social ills. He stressed that their leadership and cultural influence remain crucial in restoring order and fostering peaceful coexistence among Batswana.
The meeting highlighted the need for collaborative solutions involving traditional leadership, government, and communities to address pressing social challenges. As Botswana grapples with rising crime and violence, the call for a revitalized role of Dikgosi signals a push towards traditional values and community-driven interventions in tackling the crisis.
