President Duma Boko has announced that his administration has set aside more than P62 million to conduct a forensic audit on past public spending. The audit will focus on financial activities within 30 state-owned entities to uncover any irregularities and enhance transparency in governance.

Speaking at the Colloquium for Judges of the Court of Appeal, President Boko emphasized that corruption has deterred potential foreign investors, hampering the country’s economic growth. He stressed that addressing past financial mismanagement is crucial to restoring investor confidence and revitalizing Botswana’s economy.

The forensic audit is expected to provide a clear picture of how public funds were utilized in recent years. Boko reiterated that accountability is a priority for his administration, as it seeks to increase revenue streams and invest in repairing and upgrading national infrastructure.

This initiative marks a significant step in the government’s efforts to combat corruption and promote good governance. The findings of the audit could lead to policy reforms aimed at strengthening financial oversight in state-owned entities and ensuring that public resources are used effectively for national development.
