On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, the Botswana Police Service (BPS) No. 12 District, based in Mochudi, held a significant workshop on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) targeting out-of-school youth. The event was conducted in collaboration with Bakgatla Bolokang Matshelo (BBM) and Stepping Stones International.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the profound impact of GBV, providing participants with a safe space to share experiences and learn coping strategies. It also emphasized the connection between GBV and drug and substance abuse, fostering a deeper understanding of these interlinked issues.

Under the theme “Unite, invest to prevent violence against women and children”, the workshop underscored the urgent need for collective action in combating GBV. Discussions highlighted the stigma surrounding survivors, the importance of community support, and strategies to break cycles of violence in vulnerable populations.

The collaboration between BPS, BBM, and Stepping Stones International showcased a unified approach to addressing GBV, with a focus on empowering youth through education and dialogue. Participants were encouraged to become agents of change within their communities, promoting a culture of respect and safety for all.

This initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of Botswana’s law enforcement and civil society organizations to create a safer, more equitable society by tackling the root causes of GBV and supporting affected individuals.
