This past Monday a therapeutic trip was conducted by the Kweneng District disaster preparedness management committee through its psycho-social support team to Dutlwe for families of the deceased Matsha accident victims. This happened a week after the deceased students have been buried, and most of those who were admitted were released from Marina.
The objective of the trip as explained by senior guidance and counselling teacher from Bobirwa junior school in Bobonong, Mr Benjamin Mbanga was to help the families person to find closure through exposure to the cause of the tragedy as well as the way it occurred. He said lack of such exposure can sometimes lead to either an affected person taking too long to find closure, or failing to find it altogether.
Also present was the area MP, Mr Ngaka Ngaka who also reiterated Mr Mbanga’s words that counselling is vital in finding closure when someone has experienced such a tragedy hence government’s effort in pulling all the necessary resources and support to the affected families.
The accident happened between Dutlwe and Takatokwane, hence forth the chief of Dutlwe Kgosi Motshegetsi Puleng took it upon himself to give advice to the affected families as the accident happened closer to Dutlwe. He adviced that it should be treated as just an accident adding that failure to do so will result in the families finding it hard to accept the reality.
For his part, a parent from one of the affected families, Mr Jobe Kgotlhang appreciated the exercise saying seeing the scene of the accident and explanation on how it occurred will help heal their bleeding wounds.
We hope the affected families and the nation at large can find peace and a positive way to deal with this unfortunate incident. Princess Marina Hospital, has discharged more Matsha College students, who were admitted to the hospital following a tragic road accident.
