Palapye Water Treatment Plant Expansion A Milestone-HHVP Tsogwane
His Honour the Vice President of the Republic of Botswana, Slumber Tsogwane said the Palapye Water Treatment Plant Expansion was another milestone by the Government to quench thirst country wide. Tsogwane said this when commissioning the expansion project in Paalapye, yesterday.
The Vice President said the Government has placed access to water at the core of its planning and that the successful implementation of the RESET Agenda is attainable through availing of basic utilities such as water and electricity.
He said the Palapye and Mahalapye Water Treatment Plant Expansion projects and the ongoing Mmamashia Water Treatment Plant Expansion Project, are meant to ensure sustainable water supply in the Central and Southern parts of the country.
His Honour further said that connection of 17 Tswapong villages is complete and awaits the completion of the NSC 2.2 pipeline and the third phase of this project. The NSC 2.3 is ongoing and will distribute water from the Mmamashia Water Treatment Works, to Gaborone Water Treatment Works while the Forest Hill Reservoir will be transmitting to Lobatse and Good Hope Sub District.
Palapye Treatment Plant was expanded due to the increased demand for water over the years as area experienced growth. The development include the establishment of Botswana International University of Science and Technology, the Morupule Coal Mine and the Morupule Power Station. To mitigate against this challenge, the new plant has increased the water treatment capacity by 40 million litres which is expected to accommodate the expected demand growth for the next 20 years, the Vice President said.
For his part, the Minister of Lands and Water Affairs Hon. Dr. Kefentse Mzwinila, said increasing the water supply in different parts of the country opens doors for other developments. He said the Ministry therefore, is engaged with many other ongoing projects to increase water supply amongst which is the intention of sourcing water from the Zambezi River. He said that discussions and negotiations with neighbouring countries regarding this project are ongoing.
The Member of Parliament for Palapye Onneetse Ramogapi showed gratitude to the developments undertaken in his area. He applauded the Government for prioritizing his area regardless of the difficult economic times. He also noted and showed appreciation of the quality of the project, further saying that there is nothing as pleasing as seeing a good quality project being completed on time and on budget.
