Oscar Pistorius Gets 6 Years For The Murder Of Reeva Steenkamp
This morning Judge Thokozile Masipa handed down a six-year prison sentence to Oscar Pistorius for the 2013 murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. Masipa said the mitigating factors in the case outweighed the aggravating factors and that factors existed to deviate from the prescribed sentence for murder.
The Olympic and Paralympic icon repeatedly shot the 29-year-old model after she barricaded herself in the bathroom of his home in Pretoria on February 2013. He appeared at North Gauteng High Court this morning after a three-and-a-half year legal battle.
Right after sentencing, Pistorius was taken to the cells. He has now arrived at Kgosi Mampuru correctional facility. It is said he will serve at least half of his sentence before being eligible for parole. Oscar will not appeal the sentence.
