Nicki Minaj Reveals Why Lil Wayne Wasn’t On “Pink Friday”
This year, discourse on Nicki Minaj has largely centered around her involvement in beefs, be it the overt (Remy Ma) or the speculative (Cardi B). And while many fans have been clamoring for a new Nicki Minaj album, the self proclaimed Queen is no doubt sitting on a new album, set to drop at some point in 2018. To be honest, we don’t know much else about the upcoming Minaj project, save for the fact that Nicki has been promising some heat. And while we wait for the future, Nicki Minaj takes us back to the past in a reflective IG post, honoring the seventh anniversary of her debut album Pink Friday.
At the time, the Young Money rapper was killing the game, enlisting some massive A-listers to hold down the guest appearances. Eminem, Rihanna, Drake, Kanye West, and will i. am all came through, but strangely enough, there was no sign of Lil Wayne to be found. Back in 2010, Nicki revealed that Wayne had not contributed to the project, claiming ““He really hasn’t had any involvement on it. But to be honest, the album doesn’t sound like Wayne. I mean, he’s my biggest influence, but it doesn’t sound like Wayne’s stuff. It sounds like Nicki.”
Recently, Nicki revealed the reason why her mentor was unable to contribute to Pink Friday, and it wasn’t by his own choosing. In the caption, Minaj writes “after all his love & support, my mentor Lil Wayne couldn’t be on my debut album due to a gun charge in NY. That had me fucked up @ the time. It’s now triple platinum and my final single off that album is almost DIAMOND.
