New Galaxy S9 Leak Reveals One Of Samsung’ s Final Secrets

Samsung has revealed very little about the upcoming Galaxy S9 smartphone except for the release date – which will be at Mobile World Congress in late February. But that was one of the few surprises left, as every other detail about the handset has been leaked through the supply chain, via network marketing plans, a quick look at the back of the retail packaging, or government regulators.

To offer one example, earlier this week the FCC certification process revealed the US-specific model with the specific 4G frequencies needed by American carriers. However, now one of the last, key secrets has been discovered. Thanks to Brazil’s telecom regulator Anatel, we now know that the Galaxy S9 is going to come with a 3000 mAh battery. That’s the same size as the battery in the Galaxy S8.

While other manufacturers such as HTC and OnePlus are pushing up battery capacity, Samsung will be relying on more efficient components and improvements in software to provide a better battery life than last year’s flagship smartphone.

With the Galaxy S9 design already looking to mimic that of the Galaxy S8 it does not come as a huge surprise that the physical internal design is following last year’s model. But it is a disappointment. It is partially offset by Samsung’s continued support of wireless charging, which means with a suitable charging plate at your office desk the S9 is going to stay topped up throughout a normal working day.

There is no doubt that the Galaxy S9 is going to be cutting it close in terms of battery life to get through a full day unassisted. Of course the majority of Galaxy S users will not be updating their handsets annually, so the real comparison here is with the Galaxy Compared to 2016’s S7 handset. The S9 will represent a much faster processor, improved screen, better ergonomics, and a 3000 mAh battery.
