Mosi-Oa-Thunya Police Operation Bear Fruit

Botswana Police Service operation dubbed: Mosi-oa-Thunya is beginning to bear fruit in Francistown.

The undercover operation targets those dealing in drugs and other related substances.

Last week alone, Central Police with the help of sniffer dogs, discovered packaged dagga hidden in nearby shrubs at Minestone location.

The dogs also discovered a drug called Cat still at Minestone.

Detective Inspector Keoagike Oodira of Francistown Police Station Crime Intelligence Branch told BOPA that there had not been any arrests in connection with the two events.

Detective Oodira said culprits akeept a distance from the drugs to avoid accountability for possession.

“They know that if found in possession, it means arrest according to the law,” he said.

However, Detective Oodira said police made a breakthrough when they arrested a middle-aged man with sachets of dagga.

The suspect is in police custody for questioning while police investigations continue.

Detective Oodira stated that Minestone was one area in Francistown giving the police a headache.

This is so because criminals take cover in the abandoned Botswana Housing Corporation houses located in the area.

Detective Oodira said most drugs were from outside the country.

“How these drugs find their way into the country and how they reach places like Francistown is another question,” said Detective Oodira, adding that the operation was indefinite. ENDS
