MORWAENG SIGNS CONDOLENCE BOOK FOR TURKEY

The Minister for State President Mr Kabo Morwaeng this afternoon signed a condolence book for Turkey. This follows a devastating earthquake that hit the country last week, leaving scores dead and multitudes injured and others missing.

Minister Morwaeng said what happened in Turkey is devastating and a sad situation. He passed condolences on behalf of the government and the people of Botswana. He went on to say when Turkey is affected, Botswana is also affected since the two countries have always had great working relations.

Turkey Ambassador Mr. Ahmet Idem Akay said the earthquake affected ten provinces, with a total 30 Million people. He said currently more than 30 000 people are reported to have lost their lives.

Ambassador Akay said he is grateful that the international community is helping. He revealed that more than 70 countries have since brought in aide in-kind and finances.
The Ambassador revealed that Batswana who are known to be in Turkey are safe.
