MORUPULE COAL MINE REFURBISHES PALAPYE CENTRAL POLICE STATION

The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security Honourable Thomas Kagiso Mmusi has said that achieving Vision 2036 was a national dream and a joint responsibility that requires both the public and private sectors’ participation and contribution, including individual individuals citizen support.

Speaking at the official handing over of a refurbished Palapye Central Police Station by Morupule Coal Mine on Friday (04/03/2022), Minister Mmusi said that in the journey towards achieving prosperity for all by 2036, there was a need for meaningful contribution by all players in the country’s economy.
He said the government was excited to see the business community coming on board and embracing partnership in developing the community and the country.

Honourable Minister pointed out that this was a positive achievement for advancing Public-Private-Partnerships (PPP) initiatives as the partnership was more important in the face of scarce resources.

Mr Mmusi applauded the Mine for the successful refurbishment of the Police Station, saying it was a clear indication of the support and role that the private sector plays in national developments. He urged them to continue with the good spirit.
Mr Mmusi further said the Police Station would go a long way in helping the Palapye community. It will also relieve the other Station that could not deal with the timely increasing crime in the area as the Palapye is one of the fastest-growing villages in the country.

In his remarks, Morupule Coal Mine Business Development Manager, Mr Matthews Bagopi said it was a great honour to deliver a symbol of commitment to the community they serve. He added that this was one of the flagship projects under the Mine’s Corporate Social Investment initiatives. Mr Bagopi stated that over P700 000.00 was spent on the project.

He said the Mine was aware that for Botswana Police Service (BPS) to deliver on its mandate diligently, there was a need for a conducive environment from which they operate, hence the refurbishment of the Police Station.
