Minister Rakgare Celebrates Hon Mokgethi For Championing GBV Issues

The Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture has said recognition of Honourable Annah Mokgethi by Dream Up, Speak Up, Stand Up (DUSUSU) is testimony of her commitment to the implementation of Government’s gender objectives as guided by the National Policy on Gender Development and the National Strategy towards Ending Gender Based Violence (GBV).

Hon. Tumiso Rakgare was speaking at an event where Botswana through the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, who is also the former Minister responsible for Gender, Honourable Anna Maria Mokgethi was recognised for the progress made in the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in the country.

The award was presented by DUSUSU founder, Ms. Zuriel Oduwole who emphasized that the organization has successfully awarded First Ladies and Gender Ministers in most African countries since its establishment in 2014. She further said that the organisation exists to encourage the recipients to do a lot more in the areas of girls’ education and Gender Development.

For her part, Hon. Mokgethi expressed gratitude for making history by receiving the award on behalf of government. She called on all stakeholders collaboratively to fight the scourge of Gender Based Violence in the country.
