Earlier today, the Minister of Water and Human Settlements, Hon. Onneetse Ramogapi, addressed a Kgotla meeting in Mokgware, where he provided key updates on government initiatives aimed at easing financial burdens on citizens.
During the meeting, the minister announced that following the recent 30% reduction in water tariffs, the government has now introduced a 50% debt amnesty campaign. This initiative targets domestic customers with outstanding water bills exceeding 90 days. He urged residents to take advantage of the campaign by visiting Water Utilities offices to settle their debts at reduced rates. Additionally, he encouraged them to negotiate a payment plan for any remaining balances before the deadline of June 30th.
Minister Ramogapi also briefed residents on the revamped Bonno National Housing Program, which was launched recently. He emphasized that the program presents an opportunity for citizens to access affordable housing, urging them to apply and benefit from this initiative.
Meanwhile, senior citizens at the meeting expressed their appreciation for the government’s efforts, particularly the recent increase in the old-age pension allowance. They praised the initiative, stating that the additional financial support would significantly improve their livelihoods.
The engagement in Mokgware showcased the government’s commitment to addressing key socio-economic issues, with Minister Ramogapi reaffirming the administration’s dedication to ensuring water accessibility, affordable housing, and improved welfare for all citizens.
