Botswana’s efforts to promote community-driven conservation and skill development took a significant step forward with the official opening of the country’s second Nkashi Knowledge Centre in Beetsha, a remote village in the Okavango Delta. The ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Hon. Ketlhalefile Motshegwa.

Funded through Okavango Eternal, the new centre is designed to be a dynamic hub fostering skill development, small business incubation, and co-created conservation solutions that align with local traditions. By integrating indigenous knowledge with modern environmental practices, the Nkashi Knowledge Centre aims to empower local communities while ensuring the sustainable management of natural resources.

Located in the heart of the Delta, the centre will serve as a crucial support system for livelihoods, providing residents with opportunities to develop marketable skills and establish small businesses. The initiative not only strengthens economic resilience but also reinforces the importance of heritage-driven conservation, ensuring that communities remain key stakeholders in preserving the Okavango Delta’s rich biodiversity.
