Gaborone, Botswana – Honourable Moeti Mohwasa, Minister for State President, today addressed the media regarding the extension of the Second Transitional National Development Plan (TNDP) and the key objectives related to the upcoming National Development Plan 12 (NDP 12).

Extension to Allow for Further Consultations

Minister Mohwasa announced that the formulation of NDP 12 has been extended until November 1, 2025 to allow for further consultations and realignment with the new government’s priorities. He highlighted that the previous plan did not fully align with the ruling party’s manifesto, making it necessary to adjust strategies to better reflect the aspirations of Batswana.

“The extension is crucial to ensure that NDP 12 is inclusive, well-informed, and effectively addresses the developmental needs of our people,” said the Minister.

A Call for Effective Economic Diversification

In his address, Honourable Mohwasa emphasized the urgent need to move away from ineffective economic diversification strategies that have not yielded the desired results. He urged a shift towards productive and sustainable approaches that put national interests above individual or political agendas.

For Botswana to achieve long-term economic growth and resilience, he stressed the importance of new, result-driven policies that will boost key sectors, promote industrialization, and create sustainable employment opportunities.

A National Development Plan that Reflects Batswana’s Aspirations

As the country moves towards finalizing NDP 12, Minister Mohwasa reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that the plan reflects the true needs and aspirations of Batswana. The extended period will allow for more inclusive stakeholder engagements to develop a plan that is forward-thinking, realistic, and beneficial for all citizens.

The extension marks a pivotal moment in Botswana’s national planning, offering an opportunity to reshape economic and developmental strategies in line with the country’s long-term vision.
