The Minister of Communications, Knowledge and Technology, Hon. Thulagano M. Segokgo gave the keynote address at Botho University’s 25th anniversary on Friday, 16 September 2022 in Gaborone. He congratulated the university on its 25 years of existence and commended its contribution to the country’s economy.
The Minister applauded the University’s emphasis on quality, technology, staff development and stakeholder engagements and collaborations with highly recognized international institutions like KTH Royal Institute of Technology, DHBW Cooperative University in Germany, University of Venda, etc., which has resulted in student and staff exchange programmes, curriculum development and joint research.
He noted that Botho University has presence in a number of African countries, namely Lesotho, Eswatini, Namibia and soon Ghana. The minister referred to the university’s geographic expansion as a phenomenal development which is well aligned to the government’s efforts to create an export led economy which has a direct contribution to the national gross domestic product.
”Allow me to also commend Botho University for its continued commitment to quality as is clearly evidenced by commendable efforts made to comply with regulatory requirements, not only here in Botswana but also in Maseru, eSwatini and Namibia where all its programmes in each country are compliant with regulatory requirements. Your commitment to quality is further noted in your 2018 enlisting to the BOS 9001:2015 certification as well as your voluntary participation in the African Union Quality Rating Mechanism under the auspices of the Association of African Universities, where your programmes have been rated good quality and the Institution satisfactory”, said the Minister.
