The Milk Afric dairy project near Lobatse has officially rebranded as Milk Valley Farm, marking a new phase in its mission to enhance Botswana’s dairy industry and bolster national food security. Interim General Manager, Mr. Onkemetse Bareki, announced that the renaming symbolizes a fresh start, with renewed efforts to maximize production and contribute more significantly to the country’s milk supply.
The farm, designed to accommodate 2,000 milking cows, has the potential to produce over 20 liters of milk per cow daily. However, the facility is currently operating below its full capacity. According to Production Manager, Mr. Maxwell Boiditswe, Milk Valley Farm presently houses 214 cows, comprising 91 milking cows, 121 dry cows and heifers, and 2 bulls.
Despite operating at a reduced scale, the farm remains committed to scaling up production and playing a key role in reducing Botswana’s reliance on imported dairy products. The rebranding is expected to be a stepping stone towards achieving full operational capacity and strengthening the local dairy value chain.
