MAPOKA VILLAGE RECEIVES A POLICE POST
The Minister of Defence and Security, Honourable Thomas Kagiso Mmusi, marked a significant step in the Government’s commitment to public safety and security by officially opening the Mapoka Police Post at Mapoka village yesterday (07/03/2024). In his address, Minister Mmusi reiterated the Government’s pledge to construct more police stations across the country, bringing services closer to the people.
Minister Mmusi underscored the benefits of the new Mapoka Police Post, stating that it will significantly improve police response time, enhance crime prevention and detection, and foster a stronger partnership with the community. He further announced the Government’s decision to build new Police Posts and upgrade existing ones during the 2024/2025 financial year.
Minister Mmusi emphasised the crucial role of peace and stability in attracting foreign investors, a key component of the country’s goal to achieve a high-income economy by 2036. He expressed concern about the escalating cross-border crime incidents in the area and called on the Police and other stakeholders to intensify their crime prevention initiatives. He also urged the community to play an active role in maintaining public safety and security.
When giving the project overview, Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, Mr Solomon Mantswe, said Mapoka Police Post was the 33rd completed since the 2015/2016 financial year. He pointed out that the opening of the Post demonstrates the Government’s commitment to enabling the BPS to deliver on its mandate effectively.
He said the Post comprises a Community Service Centre, consultation room, offices, custody suite, and kitchenette. It has a staff complement of nine officers, including the Post Commander. Mr Mantswe further informed residents that the project, which started in 2021, was completed in November 2023 at a total cost of over P982,000.00.
For his part, the Member of Parliament for Tati West, Honourable Simon Nkosana Moabi, thanked the Minister for the new Police Post in his area, saying it will relieve residents from travelling long distances to Masunga for police services.
He was optimistic that crimes such as Theft of Motor Vehicle and Stock Theft, which are common in the area, would decrease in the area. The Member of Parliament urged the public to utilise the offices accordingly and encouraged them to report any form of crime, including illegal immigrants, as they commit crimes in the area.
