For him to qualify for the semi finals that will be held later, Isaac Makwala is set to run 200m by himself this evening at 1940 hours.
This comes after he was disqualified for allegedly having a highly infectious virus. Makwala declared himself fit for his race yesterday but the IAAF officials pulled him out of the race that was ultimately won by South African Wayde Van Nierkerk.
Makwala and the whole nation have been distraught ever since and many people have labelled the action by the IAAF officials of denying Makwala the chance to compete very unfair and some saying the action was fuelled by racism as some athletes who also showed symptoms of the novovirus were allowed to take part while Makwala was disqualified.
The government of Botswana was also planning to take an action against the incident. The Minister Of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Thapelo Olopeng announced earlier in parliament that government lawyers are woirking on submitting Makwala’s complaint to IAAF.
Makwala is supposed to finish under 20.53 seconds for him to make it to the semi finals.
Goodluck to Badman, we believe in you
