The Acting Commissioner of Botswana Police Service (BPS), Mr Phemelo Ramakorwane has said that development of police infrastructure around the country is Government’s top priority in bringing policing services closer to the community.
Mr Ramakorwane was speaking on Thursday (27/10/2022) at the official opening of Makopong Police Post in Kgalagadi South. He said Government has prioritised the construction of Police Posts and Police Stations with staff housing to improve accessibility to services for a safe and secure Botswana.
He stated that Makopong Police Post will boost the morale of officers as they have the necessary resources such as equipment and increased manpower vital in tackling crime and other social issues affecting the community.
The Acting Commissioner urged members of the public to work with the police by reporting all forms of crimes to facilitate arrest and prosecution of offenders. He emphasised the need to strengthen relationship between the police and members of the community which may result in peace and security in the area.
Mr Ramakorwane informed residents that BPS is looking forward to the completion of 12 more Police Posts before the end of 2022/2023 financial year, a Forensic Science Laboratory, Maitengwe Police Station and its Staff houses.
Giving the project overview, Head of Planning and Development, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ms Oabajang Basitang said BPS appreciates Government’s support in availing the necessary resources for law enforcement despite limited funds across the public sector. She said the facility was built within budget by a citizen Contractor, at a cost of P1,213,444.00.
