Maikano reigns, their fashion approach unsurpassed
Botswana Choral Music fraternity has been showered with yet another trophy. This past weekend Botswana based Maikano Serenaders lifted the trophy of the annual Old Mutual National Choir Festival for the first time. The group led by South Africa’s Kamohelo Tsotetsi gave a thunderous performance of Mandela Mohale and Gloria. Their usual elegance was in play as they made their presentations. The choir known as Ma’14 a Gwawa was a marvel to both the eye and the ear thoughout the competition.
The men as is the norm did bring their A-Game when they did Mandela Mohale, the bass section of Maikano went unsurpassed. The choir joins Gaborone Youth Singers as the second choir from Botswana to clinch the top spot in the standard category of the NCF history. Maikano came close to lifting the trophy in 2015 where they were placed position 2 at the then Klerksdorp held NCF contest.
