Do you have at least two years’ experience of human rights advocacy, lobby, media, or campaigning work? Have you designed and run human rights and paralegal training? Do you have strong communication skills and good working knowledge of Setswana?
MRG is looking to recruit a Legal Officer based in Botswana to help them achieve their mission to realize the rights of minorities and indigenous peoples round the world, through the use of litigation, legal empowerment, legal tools and other advocacy. Specifically, working with our Senior Legal Officer, the post-holder will work with civil society partners to increase and deepen their engagement in human rights in Botswana, particularly minority rights, with the overall objective of reducing discrimination against and lack of recognition of members of minority tribes in Botswana.
Duties.
(i) build communities’ human rights knowledge through the provision of human rights training and support to community trainers.
(ii) build communities’ legal skills through the provision of paralegal training and ongoing support to paralegals.
(iii) enable community representatives and partners to improve their advocacy at the local, regional and international levels.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a degree in law and/or human rights, and at least 2 years’ experience of project management. Additionally, they will need to have a good working knowledge of Setswana as well as at least 2 years’ experience of working with partners in the global south.
Duration.
This is a part time post, 3 days per week, starting in July 2016 until October 2018 in the first instance with possibility of extension, funding permitting.
