The state has started recording a statement from a minor witness in the gruesome murder of Kopong teacher, Ms Barulaganyi Aston who was killed in her home this year.

The prosecutor, Ms Seeletso Ookeditse revealed that before Broadhurst magistrate Ms Lobby Moilatshimo when three of the four accused persons, Oageng Letsholo (46), Leufty Kosie (47) and Outwile Aston (48) appeared for mention yesterday.

Ms Ookeditse said the prosecution had already received a psychologist report that the child was ready to give a statement and subsequent to that the prosecution approached the Botswana Police Service child friendly centre for assistance.

“The child was interviewed on Monday and soon we will be getting the statement,” said Ms Ookeditse. Regarding the rejected bail application by second accused Kosie at the Lobatse High Court, she said the prosecution had not yet been furnished with the reasons for the rejection.

The reasons were expected to be communicated during the course of the week, she said.

Letsholo, Kosie and Aston, together with Kebaleboge Ntsebe who is out on bail, are accused of butchering Ms Aston on July 14 and removing some of her body parts. They are scheduled to appear again on December 28. BOPA
