Khoemacau Mine Applauded For Making CSR a Priority
Her Excellency, the First Lady of the Republic of Botswana Mrs Neo Masisi in her remarks during Inaugural Khoemacau Copper Mining GM’s Lake Ngami Cycle Classic Award Ceremony yesterday in Toteng showed appreciation to Khoemacau Mine for taking the lead in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.
The First lady said Khoemacau is not only concerned about profits but are also mindful of giving back to the community they operate in as they have prioritised CSR in their agenda. Her Excellency implored other companies and mines to also incorporate CSR in their operations.
She said, apart from this charity race, which its proceeds are meant for the community, Khoemacau is also into food security as they have a poultry in Sehithwa which makes a contribution to economic empowerment in the area. She said the mine also built some class rooms in Mogothwane and a Clinic in Toteng.
Furthermore, she encouraged the public to take part in cycling, adding that, what started as a campaign for Gender Based Violence, has turned into a cycling club.
The First Lady further encouraged and pleaded with residents of Toteng to take part in wellness activities.
In her closing, she encouraged men to protect women and children and asked Dikgosi and Village leadership to look at cultural practices that promote Gender Based Violence with a view protecting the girl child and women. She further encouraged the public especially sports clubs to take part in fighting Gender Based.
The Khoemacau Copper Mine GM’s Lake Ngami Cycle Classic was happening for the first time and will be held annual. The Classic comprised of cycling, running and walking categories and was attended by different sporting clubs from the Northwest and beyond. Winners from different categories walked away with cash prizes.
