Kgomotso Tshwenyego On Being Called Ugly As A Child

Physical beauty is the desired crown of every young girl, so for a young girl to be told they are ugly by family and her peers, it means a difficult childhood lies ahead. Local actress Kgomotso Tshwenyego has suffered such fate. To date she has been an actress in almost all the films that have been produced in the country as she seems to be irresistible to many producers, but beneath such achievements is a sad childhood story about how she was scolded based on her looks.

“When I grew up, I was called the ugliest child in my family. I was given a nickname – an Afrikaans word that means “ugly”. You can never imagine how that hurt me. I admired other girls, friends, sisters, cousins. I wished I looked more beautiful, I became insecure and ashamed”, she posted on her Facebook account.

The abuse didn’t end there, she continues to say, “I still hear those comments coming from people. I still read about it on social media. It does bother me sometimes but I thank God that He gave me the life that He gave me, despite my looks. To those who feel insecure about anything just remember to look for and find a purpose you have been created for. We are all alive for a reason. Most importantly, never allow anyone’s opinion of who you are to be your reality. You were created for a purpose. Look for it. Live it. its not easy but you can do it.”

This touching story should be an inspiration to young women who are dictated to look a particular way by society. Success and personal fulfillment do not come from the way a person looks, they are skin deep. Big up to Kgomotso, a beautiful woman inside out. Woman Crush Wednesday!
