COMMEMORATION OF THE 10TH ANNUAL NATIONAL COMMUNITY POLICING CLUSTER AWARDS CEREMONY AT MAUN – The Honourable Minister for Defence and Security Mr. Thomas kagiso Mmusi marked the commemoration of the 10th Annual National Community Policing Cluster Awards Ceremony, that took place at Maun.
The Minister acknowledged that there are insistent efforts towards crime management within the nation, and these efforts has evolved and grown over the years in terms of stakeholder participation and collaboration. Key stakeholders of the Community Policing include the private sector, government departments, non-governmental organisations and various sectors of the community. Community Policing approach is efficiently driven by community leaders, more especially Dikgosi.
He said:
“I would like to emphasise that without effective partnerships between the police and relevant stakeholders, crime prevention and control would remain an insurmountable challenge”.
Minister Mmusi noted and did appreciate that Community Policing Cluster Committees are inundated with challenges, among them, limited resources, especially the acute shortage of transport and other logistics. On behalf of the Government of Botswana, he assured attendees that he will continue to capacitate the Botswana Police Service within the limited resources available. Furthermore, Honourable Minister shared his concern of minimal participation in Cluster Policing by youth and communities in urban areas.
In conclusion the Honourable Minister thanked all for attending as their attendance demonstrates commitment in contributing towards peace and tranquility in Botswana.
