Jordin Sparks Reveals She Got Married in July, Pregnant With First Child

Jordin Sparks has had some major life changes lately, and she’s sharing the big news all at once. The 27-year-old singer revealed to PEOPLE that she’s now a wife and a momma-to-be: Sparks married Dana Isaiah in mid-July, and they’re expecting their first child due next spring.

“We’re both really excited,” Sparks told PEOPLE in a feature posted Tuesday morning (Nov. 14), admitting that her husband was having trouble keeping it all a secret. “He’s been like, ‘I want to shout it from the mountain tops!’ We’re really proud to be married to each other and to be celebrating this.”

Sparks and Isaiah, 25, met when each of their mothers put them together in a group text because Isaiah wanted to move to Los Angeles to pursue a modeling career. “My mom was trying to get [Jordin] to talk me out of moving to L.A. because she’s experienced the industry out here,” Isaiah recalled. “It wasn’t like, ‘We want you guys to date.’”

Turns out, talking to the American Idol alum only inspired him to make the move even more, and eventually stirred up strong feelings for Sparks.

“A couple days after we had actually met, I was like in my head, ‘That’s going to be my husband!” Sparks said. “That’s my husband right there. When I’m with him, I feel comfort and safety and calm and peace, and those aren’t things that I normally felt. So it was a little wake-up call for me.”

Sparks had met Isaiah’s family in February at Super Bowl LI in Houston while traveling there with her I’m M.A.D., Are You? charity campaign.

Now, after their wedding in Hawaii on July 16 and discovering Sparks is pregnant in August, the couple is settled together in L.A.

“I’d gone through a crazy time last year, so I was just like, ‘You know what? I’m good. I’m going to stay single,” Sparks said of the time before she met Isaiah. “‘I’m just not going to look,’ It’s amazing that that phrase ‘When you don’t look for it, that’s when it comes’ … he just showed up at my door.”

Sparks continued, “I’m extremely grateful because life is nuts. This is the best part so far because I have [Dana] and I have this little one and I have a new family. I’m the most content I’ve ever been in my life.”
