1. Who Wants What I Make?

This is basically you asking your friends if they’re willing to pay a certain amount for what you make. Then go to someone you don’t know and offer it to them for that price and see what kind of reaction you get.

2. Teach Others To Do What You Love.

Teach piano lessons, offer cooking classes, or teach another language, if those are your passions. You can do this by teaching through a college or continuing education program, by creating your own classes, or by creating your own webinars or tele-seminar series online.

3. Sell Or Craft A Product For Enthusiasts In Your Hobby.

For example, if you are a wine enthusiast, you might import hand-blown wine glasses from a different country, or invent a unique wine refrigeration device, or develop a line of fun wine-themed T-shirts. Hobbyists tend to be very enthusiastic, passionate and willing to spend money on items related to their hobby.

4. Teach The Business Of The Hobby.

If your background is in publishing, but you love cooking, you could specialize in teaching people in the food industry how to get their cookbooks published. You are teaching people who share your hobby how to make business out of it.

5. Speak Or Write About Your Hobby.

Hobby related how-to topics, historical perspectives, and compelling stories, are all of interest to enthusiasts.  And you could get paid to do it, why not try it.

6. Repair Or Fix Items Related To What You Love.

Most hobbies have “stuff” connected to them, and sometimes, that stuff needs to be fixed by a skilled and knowledgeable person. You could fix computers, appraise collectibles, repair bicycles, source missing parts for highly unusual items, and so on.

7. Test the Waters

It’s exhilarating when you realize that you can turn your favorite hobby into a commercial venture. A smart idea is to test the waters first by starting your new business on a part-time basis. Just remember that whether you are working on the venture part-time or full-time, you need to take the management and administrative tasks seriously if you want the people to consider it a business.

8. Am I In The Right Place And Time To Be Offering This?

Marketing depends on what you’re willing to invest. Once you have made this decision, you will need to track it to see what kind of return you get from advertising on Facebook or online with Google. You may wish to take some time to research these options.

9. Start Treating Your Hobby Like A Business

When you’re ready to move your activity beyond a fun pastime, you need to get serious about managing it. For example, you’ll need a bookkeeping system to log income and expenses. You’ll need a business checking account, and possibly a credit card.

10. Pick A Business Name

Your business name marks the beginning of your new brand. You’ll want to choose something that’s easy to remember and reflects what your hobby is all about. In addition to checking if the website address for your name is available, you’ll need to make sure that another business isn’t already using the name.
