Hamptons Jazz Fest Still Despite GCC Revoking Their Permit
The Hamptons Jazz will still go on as planned despite the fact that the Gaborone City Council has revoked their permit. The organiser of the eventtold the media that that even though the GCC request that they host the festival in a sound proof facility, its impossible because there are no such venues around.
GCC communicated through a Facebook post on BWGovernment page indicating that the permit issued to the Hamptons Promoters on the February 9, 2018 by the GCC Bye Law Officer was erroneous.
“Council has no authority to issue permits on loud music beyond midnight unless the event is to be held in a sound proof facility or in an isolated area” read the statement. GCC advised the organisers to seek assistance with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development regarding their request for a permit to operate beyond midnight.
Smith said the Facebook post was made before they were informed about the revocation of their permit adding that it is too late to change anything and that they cannot cancel or postpone their event.
Smith said that they have learnt that one of the residents of the area near the venue is sick and cannot tolerate noise at night and said that they will try and talk to the person in question.
The Hamptons Jazz Festival is slated for the 24th of March at Duma FM grounds.
