Gaborone United Withdraws From CAF 2016
Gaborone United have announce their withdrawal from the CAF Confederations Cup 2016 due to lack of funds. Withdrawal and renunciation from playing stipulates that the team be sanctioned with a fine of five thousand (5000) U.S dollars and be forbidden from participating in all CAF Inter clubs Competition for the next two (2) years.
Gaborone United booked their place in the Confederations Cup after winning the Mascom Top 8 Cup. A draw that was held in Dakar, Senegal on December 11 last year pitted them against Mozambique’s Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi Football Club from Zanzibar.
GU’s withdrawal from the continental competition follows the recent withdrawal by Mochudi Centre Chiefs from the CAF Champions league for the same reasons.
