Graduates Urged To Take Advantage of Government Programmes

The Vice President and Chancellor of the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN), His Honour Slumber Tsogwane today installed Professor Ketlhatlhogile Mosepele as the Vice Chancellor of Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources during the joint ceremony for the University’s 2022 graduation and the Inauguration of its 2nd Vice Chancellor.

In his acceptance speech, Professor Mosepele stated that as the University, they commit to be one of the partners and implementing agencies of the Government’s policies such as the Reset Agenda, Vision 2036 and The Agrotourism of the New Intergrated Land Policy.

Professor Mosepele said BUAN is faced with a mammoth task of producing graduates who are ready to employ other Batswana in modern and high technology farms and factories.

On the other hand, the Minister of Education and Skills Development, Hon Dr. Douglas Letsholathebe urged the graduates to familiarise themselves with, and utilize Government programmes that have been developed to ensure commercial viability.

Officiating during the graduation Minister Letsholathebe said the Commercial Guide of the Agricultural Sector indicated that agriculture comprises about 2% of Botswana’s GDP, which he said was very low. He encouraged the graduates to use digitilization to ensure easier ways of doing business.

The Minister said the Government has come up with policies to enable them to achieve food security and will continue to make the environment conducive for growth. He further congratulated the graduates stating that they have achieved their goals, despite the challenges of COVID-19.

The Minister said that during the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, His Excellency the President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi had alluded that the Government believes the Reset Agenda and its priorities will enable the country to strongly recover from COVID-19 pandemic and realize the development aspirations as enshrined in National Vision 2036 and NDP 11.

The graduation ceremony was held under the theme ‘’Producing innovative graduates and technological solutions in agriculture and natural resources for sustainable development.”
